Privacy Policy
The short version: we do not ask for your name or identity, and there is nothing to sign up for. Two Google services run on the site so we can see how many people read which page. Both are set out below.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics is used to see how often a page was opened, where readers came from and what device they read on. It sets a cookie in your browser and your IP address goes to Google.
We look at these numbers only in aggregate. We do not see what any one person read and we do not build any such list.
Google Reader Revenue Manager
This Google script runs on article pages and is tied to Google News. It does not run on admin pages or on any page kept out of search.
Advertising
There is no advertising network and no social media tracking pixel on this site.
Cookies
A cookie is a small file a site asks your browser to store and sends back on later visits. We set none of our own for readers — there is nothing to log in to and no preference to remember. These are the ones you may meet:
- Google Analytics
- Sets
_gaand a_ga_*cookie to tell a returning browser from a new one, so page reads can be counted. It does not tell us who you are. Typical lifetime is up to two years. - Google Reader Revenue Manager
- Sets cookies recording whether you have already been shown, or already dismissed, one of its prompts — so the same box is not shown to you again and again.
There is no advertising network here, so there are no advertising or retargeting cookies, and no social media cookies — we embed no Facebook, X or Instagram widgets.
Refusing cookies
- Every major browser can block third-party cookies, or all cookies, in its privacy settings. Reading the site is unaffected — nothing here depends on them.
- Google publishes a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics across all sites.
- Private or incognito mode discards them when you close the window.
Server logs
The server keeps ordinary logs — which page was requested, and when. They exist to find technical problems and are neither shared nor sold.
If you write to [email protected], your email is kept only so we can reply. It is not added to any list.
Children
This is a general news publication and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is usually nothing for us to export or delete. If you believe we hold something, write to [email protected] and we will tell you what it is and remove it. Complaints about data handling can be raised through our grievance redressal mechanism.
Changes
If this page changes, the updated text is published here. Questions go to [email protected].
