Editorial Policy

This page says where what you read here comes from, and what happens when it turns out to be wrong.

Facts

Dates, figures, fees and government decisions are written from the original document or the official announcement, and the link to it is in the article. Rumour, and whatever is circulating on WhatsApp, does not appear here until it has been checked.

What we do not publish

• Articles written for payment. Advertising and journalism are not mixed.
• Anyone's private details, unless they are necessary to the story.
• The name of a person accused of a crime, unless there is an official police or court record.

Corrections

Mistakes happen. They are not hidden here — the article is corrected and the correction date is shown on it, so you can see that something changed.

If something looks wrong, write to [email protected]. Include the link to the article and what is wrong with it, and it will be looked at faster. If our response does not settle the matter, the formal route is our grievance redressal mechanism.

Bylines

Every article says who wrote it, and each byline leads to a page for that writer — see our writers. An article bylined to the desk is one that more than one person put together.

Advertising and paid content

There is no advertising on the site at present and we do not accept payment for coverage. If that changes, these rules hold:

• Advertisers get no say over editorial — not what we cover, not how, and not whether an article about them stays up.
• Paid placement is labelled as advertising and kept visually distinct. It is never dressed in the layout or typography of an article.
• We do not sell links, and we do not accept payment to publish, change or remove an article. Removal requests go through the grievance redressal mechanism, not commercially.

No advertising network, no social tracking pixel. The details, including every cookie set on the site, are in our Privacy Policy.
